Sara Wibberley

Artist Bio -

Sara Wibberley is an emerging painter born in 1975 in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. She now lives with her husband and two teenage sons in a small village in rural Bedfordshire, UK. She studied art at GCSE and A Level standard at school but then went on to train as a primary school teacher at Brighton University. Having been a  teacher for the last 27 years, she reignited her love for creating art during the first Covid lockdown and has been creating art most days since.

Sara uses art as her voice and a window into her inner world. Sara’s home (that she shares with her husband and two teenage sons) is her haven, her place of calm and peace and it is here where most of her inspirations, for her art, emerge. Taking solace and comfort from everyday items in her home; the beauty and simplicity of their shapes coming to life in 2D form through her creations.

‘Even the common articles made for daily use become endowed with beauty when they are loved.’ (SoetsuYanagi)

Sara creates still lifes on her dining room table out of objects she has collected over the years perhaps due to sentimental reasons or travel or simply because she liked the shape of them. Preferring to work with acrylics on wooden panels, she attempts to capture the essence of the objects in front of her, building up the layers of the paint, using a minimal palette, whilst allowing the history of previous layers to show through in places.

Sara’s aim is to appreciate the everyday, the simplicity, the small things in life; the objects that have a story to tell, that once had caring hands creating them for future generations to appreciate. Through Sara’s art they continue to live on for others to also appreciate their simple beauty and hopefully find comfort in them.
