Gaya Vartanyan
Gaya Vartanyan is captivated by the transformative potential of clay, which allows her to explore the intricate connections between humanity, material, and the spaces we inhabit. Her work delves into the tension between visibility and concealment, harmony and chaos, intimacy and vastness.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia in a half Armenian and half Ukrainian family, Gaya Vartanyan began her creative journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and later earned a Master’s in Architecture from London Metropolitan University (Moscow Architectural school partner).
With a strong background in interdisciplinary design, she has worked in architecture, as well as in the fashion industry. This diverse experience informs her ceramic practice, blending structural precision with artistic expression. Gaya currently lives and works in London, UK.
‘‘Through my work, I aim to evoke a tactile and emotional connection between material, maker, and viewer—creating objects that are both grounded in ancient traditions and deeply personal in expression.’’
